Oakton Academy’s AP and advanced STEM courses grew from the legacy Physics, Calculus, Pre-Calculus, Algebra II/Trigonometry, and AP review programs. The polished new program groups those offerings into a clear path for students taking demanding high-school math and science courses.
Core areas
- AP Physics C: Mechanics — kinematics, Newton’s laws, energy, momentum, rotation, gravitation, oscillations
- AP Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism — electric fields and potential, circuits, magnetism, induction
- Honors / AP Physics foundation — vectors, graphing, motion, dynamics, circular motion, energy, momentum, waves, thermal concepts, and modern physics as needed
- AP Calculus AB/BC — limits, derivatives, integrals, applications, the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, and series for BC students
- Pre-Calculus and advanced Algebra — functions, trigonometry, analytic geometry, sequences, probability, and skills needed before calculus
Teaching approach
The course emphasizes deep concept understanding and active problem solving. Students learn why a method works, how to choose the right approach, and how to check whether an answer makes physical or mathematical sense.
For students already enrolled in AP or Honors classes at school, Oakton sessions can serve as weekly review and reinforcement. For students preparing for a future course, summer or preview sessions help build confidence before the school year begins.
