About Oakton Academy

Oakton Academy supports Northern Virginia students through academic enrichment, test preparation, writing instruction, STEM support, and college guidance — with a practical, family-centered approach.

Our Mission

We help students build the skills, confidence, judgment, and preparation they need for demanding academic work and meaningful future opportunities. The goal is not only higher scores or stronger applications — it is long-term growth as readers, writers, thinkers, communicators, and problem solvers.

What We Preserved from the Legacy Site

The old WordPress site contained years of program descriptions, results updates, teacher bios, parenting notes, and community activities. The new site keeps the valuable substance and removes stale formatting, repeated pages, and outdated registration details.

Whole-student growth

The legacy site repeatedly emphasized whole-person education: academic skill, character, communication, leadership, service, and confidence.

Small-group attention

Students learn best when teachers can see how they think, where they struggle, and what kind of feedback will help them improve.

Strong fundamentals

Oakton programs focus on reading carefully, writing clearly, solving problems logically, and building habits that transfer beyond a single test.

Family partnership

Parent communication, planning conversations, and practical guidance have been part of Oakton Academy’s identity from the legacy site through the new platform.

Program heritage

A clearer path for families

Many legacy pages described real and useful offerings, but they were spread across old years, duplicate pages, and event announcements. We consolidated the strongest content into the current Programs, Teachers, Results, and Events sections.

  • Digital SAT/PSAT preparation in reading, writing, grammar, math, strategy, and timed practice.
  • AP Physics, Honors Physics, AP Calculus, Pre-Calculus, Algebra II/Trigonometry, and advanced STEM support.
  • Classic reading and writing for elementary and middle-school students, plus critical reading and advanced writing for high-school students.
  • College application planning, essay coaching, activity-list review, interview preparation, and family guidance.
  • Public speaking, debate, presentation, interviewing, leadership, and community-service experiences.

Parenting & family guidance

The legacy site included parenting discussions and parent reading-club themes. We preserved the most useful topics as part of Oakton’s broader family-support philosophy.

  • Teen stress, anxiety, peer pressure, and healthy balance
  • Time management, sleep, study routines, and resilience
  • Parent-student communication during middle school and high school
  • High-school course planning, AP/SAT/PSAT timing, and college preparation
  • Leadership, service, internships, summer enrichment, and activity planning

Advisory network

Oakton’s old advisory-member pages listed educators, professionals, researchers, and mentors. Rather than reprinting long bios, the new site explains the value they represent.

  • College admissions and essay guidance
  • Business, law, medicine, engineering, computer science, and research perspectives
  • Mentorship from educators and professionals with advanced degrees and university experience
  • A practical bridge between academic preparation and long-term student development
